Science Daily's piece regarding how the brain makes decisions, yours truly smiles as John Boyd's
OODA loop is finally getting the recognition it deserves as these recent findings reinforces the validity of feedback loops, recursion and a constant reevaluation of the scene at hand in realtime as everything's incomplete, nothing is ever finished because if it were, there would be no reality. For life to function, there must be slippage, the ability to adapt and interact with the noisy environment in realtime, along the lines of the OODA loop or die, something that is not the case as seen by the myriad of life forms on planet earth. In order to life to do this, analog rules as seen by the OODA loop diagram whereby the ability to stay alive depends on observation of chaotic outside events, adaptive interaction with the environment, proper response to feedback loops driven by the environment and intelligent decision making based on an ever changing situation filled with uncertainties, something beyond the kin of baseline digital computation as seen by the rise of neural nets, the front end analog engine of AI - RM.
Hence, the logic of the brain and all life using OODA as the construct to properly deal with reality, is fact, not fiction and the recent findings, as per Science Daily, is proving out to be true as we speak.
For decades, many artificial intelligence systems, including convolutional neural networks, have been inspired by the idea that the brain processes information in a one way sequence. According to this traditional model, sensory information travels upward through increasingly complex brain regions until it reaches the frontal cortex, where decisions are made.
Vlasov and other researchers have increasingly questioned whether that picture is complete.
Instead, they are exploring a model based on natural intelligence, which has been refined through evolution over hundreds of millions of years. In this framework, the brain does not rely only on a step by step flow of information. Decision making also depends on interconnected feedback loops that allow information to move in both directions between brain regions.
Because biological intelligence performs remarkably complex tasks while using far less energy than today's AI systems, understanding this architecture could help guide the development of future artificial intelligence.
