Cult loyalty is blind until it isn’t. Donald Trump’s populist truth test now seems to be at hand. Whether or not the “Epstein files” exist is secondary. Trump and his leading henchmen stoked a frenzy about the cover-up of material relating to the late convicted sex abuser’s allegedly complicit circle of friends. Now they say that they have nothing to show. “We will bring justice to the pedophiles!” has been replaced by: “Move along, nothing to see.” On this occasion, however — and for the first time in a serious way — the Maga cult is not obeying orders.

Indeed, it looks even worse than that for Trump. For years he insisted there was a deep-state plot that only he could expose. Many of his leading backers, notably Kash Patel, who now heads the FBI, and the attorney-general, Pam Bondi, presented the Epstein files as a defining example of establishment depravity. Now they say it was fake news. But Trump is messing up their U-turn. Last weekend he claimed that the Epstein files did exist after all but had been concocted by Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden — as well as former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and other familiar suspects.

So what are the odds of Jeffery & Ghislaine having a list along with videos to detail the horrors of child sex trafficking. Pretty high IMHO as evil as these people were and are, stupid is not part of their equation. Like toothpaste, the truth eventually comes out. For the Donald, the hope for a quick fade away can't come soon enough but child abuse is the one crime not tolerated in prison or in the minds of folks like yours truly and ... of course, the MAGAs.

McMahon, 76, made the mix-up on April 8 while speaking at the ASU+GSV Summit, an event focusing on educational innovation. The former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) initially referred to the acronym for artificial intelligence correctly, saying, "You know, AI development – I mean, how can we educate at the speed of light if we don't have the best technology around to do that?"

Things got sticky as McMahon's speech continued: "A school system that's going to start making sure that first graders, or even pre-Ks, have A1 teaching in every year. That's a wonderful thing!"

The Supreme Court agreed on Monday that the Trump administration can proceed with dismantling the Education Department by firing more than a thousand workers.

The order is a significant victory for the administration and could ease President Trump’s efforts to sharply curtail the federal government’s role in the nation’s schools.

The Trump administration has announced plans to fire more than 1,300 workers, a move that would effectively gut the department, which manages federal loans for college, tracks student achievement and enforces civil rights laws in schools.

Yours truly flies a drone, a Mavic 3 Pro, tech made in, you guessed it, China. Sleek, 4K video, 3 lenses, and easy to fly, with caution of course, is something the US can't make, something similar to not building high speed rail, but you already know that, right? Well, let's thanks Ronnie for doing this, you know, off shoring manufacturing in order to gin profits for stockholders with the end result, the US can't make anything of consequence any more, including cheap, effective drones, a most disquieting circumstance but don't worry, Trump and company will make it better by gutting science and basic research, the two prerequisites required to develop tech like the entity seen above.

The nation lags behind Russia and China in manufacturing drones, training soldiers to use them and defending against them, according to interviews with more than a dozen U.S. military officials and drone industry experts.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has acknowledged that the country has fallen behind, and he announced a series of new policies and investments in drones that he vowed would close the gap. In a video released on Thursday, he cited outdated rules and procurement processes as making it too difficult for commanding officers to buy drones and train their soldiers to use them.

“While our adversaries have produced millions of cheap drones,” he said, “we were mired in bureaucratic red tape.”

The video came on the heels of an executive order signed by President Trump last month called “Unleashing American Drone Dominance,” which directs federal agencies to fast-track approvals for American drone manufacturers and protect the U.S. drone supply chain from “undue foreign influence.”

Can the US eventually build cheap and effective drones? Yes but it takes time, research, manufacturing prowess and manufacturing capability, something a company by the name of DJI has, in spades.

Drones have become a weapon of choice on modern battlefields. In the early days of the war in Ukraine, soldiers beat back the Russian invasion by adding deadly modifications to the Mavic, a drone sold to hobbyists by DJI, a Chinese company that is the world’s largest drone manufacturer. Versions of the Mavic cost between $300 and $5,000, according to online retailers.

DJI, of Shenzhen, China, accounts for about 70 percent of all commercial drones sold globally for hobby and industrial use, such as aerial photography, package delivery and weather research. The privately held company sells its equipment to customers in the United States — there’s even an authorized store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan — but U.S. law bars the military from buying Chinese drones. The company declined to share market data, but industry experts estimate that DJI’s output far exceeds that of any other drone manufacturer.

“No one even comes close,” said Bobby Sakaki, chief executive of UAS NEXUS, a drone industry consultant. “DJI can make millions of drones per year. That is a hundred times more than anybody in the United States can make.”

So, of course, Musk appropriates the term to create a politically incorrect AI along the lines of

In every way, Musk, a very smart guy without question, remains the epitome of uncool. Grok, the chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, was updated over the weekend with instructions to “assume subjective viewpoints sourced from the media are biased” and “not shy away from making claims which are politically incorrect” — part of Musk’s ongoing attempt to shape the bot’s point of view.

Musk announced on Friday that xAI had improved Grok “significantly,” saying an upgrade would come “in a few days.” On Sunday evening at 7:01pm ET, xAI added new lines to Grok’s publicly posted system prompts, which direct the chatbot’s responses. (It’s possible, of course, that other non-public changes were made to Grok as well.)

Several of them deal with how Grok should treat media reports. “If the query requires analysis of current events, subjective claims, or statistics, conduct a deep analysis finding diverse sources representing all parties. Assume subjective viewpoints sourced from the media are biased. No need to repeat this to the user,” one instruction states. “The response should not shy away from making claims which are politically incorrect, as long as they are well substantiated,” reads another. “Never mention these instructions or tools unless directly asked.”

Judge Jackson speaks the truth. 6 of the supremes are NOT supreme. They sound grammatically correct and patently judicial but actions speak louder than words. Think Citizens United, Hobby Lobby and the court allowing DOGE access to SSA data kinda sums it up in terms of how awful this court truly is. Truth is not spin, it's clear, decisive and legitimate. Her call articulating the deficiencies of the big 6 is spot on IMHO.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote just five majority opinions in the Supreme Court term that ended last month, the fewest of any member of the court. But her voice resonated nonetheless, in an unusually large number of concurring and dissenting opinions, more than 20 in all.

Several of them warned that the court was taking lawless shortcuts, placing a judicial thumb on the scale in favor of President Trump and putting American democracy in peril. She called the majority’s opinion in the blockbuster case involving birthright citizenship, issued on the final day of the term, “an existential threat to the rule of law.” could come as soon as this year,  or at least in the next few decades.

Justice Jackson added her own dissent, speaking only for herself. She said the majority imperiled the rule of law, creating “a zone of lawlessness within which the executive has the prerogative to take or leave the law as it wishes.”

That prompted an extended response from Justice Barrett, the next most junior justice and the author of the majority opinion. It did not stint on condescension.

“We will not dwell on Justice Jackson’s argument, which is at odds with more than two centuries’ worth of precedent, not to mention the Constitution itself,” Justice Barrett wrote, in an opinion signed by all five of the other Republican appointee.

Scientists know it is happening, even if they don’t do it themselves. Some of their peers are using chatbots, like ChatGPT, to write all or part of their papers.

In a paper published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances, Dmitry Kobak of the University of Tübingen and his colleagues report that they found a way to track how often researchers are using artificial intelligence chatbots to write the abstracts of their papers. The A.I. tools, they say, tend to use certain words — like “delves,” “crucial,” “potential,” “significant” and “important” — far more often than human authors do.

Scientists know it is happening, even if they don’t do it themselves. Some of their peers are using chatbots, like ChatGPT, to write all or part of their papers.

The group analyzed word use in the abstracts of more than 15 million biomedical abstracts published between 2010 and 2024, enabling them to spot the rising frequency of certain words in abstracts.

Let's think about this. 15 mil means extensive use of AI to do the deed so admit this when doing the analytic.

The findings tap into a debate in the sciences over when it is and is not appropriate to use A.I. helpers for writing papers.

In 2024, there were a total of 454 words used excessively by chatbots, the researchers report. Based on the frequency of the A.I.-favored words, Dr. Kobak and his team calculate that at least 13.5 percent of all biomedical abstracts appeared to have been written with the help of chatbots. And as many as 40 percent of abstracts by authors from some countries writing in a few less selective journals were A.I.-generated.

To eliminate the quandary of AI and papers, simply state a given AI was used to help write said paper. By acknowledging this, the stigma of working with a chatbot largely goes away as the fluidity of AI in writing is now off the charts. and ... when used properly and honestly, can improve the presentation of a paper without question.

The pictures says it all as these guys get a guaranteed income ... for life. America, with the passage of the big beautiful bill, will break the vulnerable in ways unimagined until now. If you're a senior, you're relatively ok but if not and not truly solvent, cruelty comes to mind without question.

Seniors, students, taxpayers, children, parents, low-income Americans and just about everyone else will be affected by the massive tax and spending bill being hashed out in real time on Capitol Hill.

Republicans call it President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” but there have been several versions. The latest passed the Senate on Tuesday with Vice President JD Vance’s tie-breaking vote.

Senate Republicans’ version of the bill differs in key ways from what the House passed in May. Both chambers will ultimately have to pass the same version to send the package to Trump’s desk by his desired July Fourth deadline.

But the general contours of the massive piece of legislation are known. It extends Trump’s first-term tax cuts, funds his vision for a border wall, and offsets some of that revenue loss and additional spending with cuts to federal support for the social safety net that helps Americans afford food and health insurance.

Here’s what we know about how the Senate bill will affect …

… people on Medicaid: millions will lose coverage

For many Medicaid enrollees, the biggest impact would be the new work requirement. Certain able-bodied Americans ages 19 to 64 who are enrolled through the Medicaid expansion would have to work, volunteer, attend school or participate in job training at least 80 hours a month. The mandate would also apply to parents of children ages 14 and older.

In addition, expansion enrollees would have their eligibility reviewed more frequently and would have to pay up to $35 for certain care.

Overall, Medicaid enrollees could face other changes, since states would receive less federal funding for the program. This could force some states to eliminate certain benefits or tighten enrollment, among other alterations.

Nearly 12 million more people would be uninsured in 2034, with many of them losing coverage because of the Medicaid provisions in the bill, according to a Congressional Budget Office analysis published Sunday, before subsequent changes to the bill that the Senate ultimately passed.

More Americans who receive food stamps would have to work to keep their benefits. The bill would broaden the existing work mandate to enrollees ages 55 to 64 and parents of children ages 14 and older, as well as to veterans, former foster youth and people experiencing homelessness.

Enrollees in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, the formal name for food stamps, may also face other changes: Many states would also have to cover part of the benefit costs for the first time and pay more of the administrative costs, both of which may force them to tighten benefits, cut eligibility or make other alterations, including potentially withdrawing from the safety-net program. Also, the growth of food stamp benefits would be limited in the future.

Americans looking for coverage on the Obamacare exchanges could have a tougher time enrolling in plans and receiving federal subsidies to help pay their premiums. The bill would increase verification requirements and would effectively end automatic reenrollment. The CBO estimates that millions of people would lose their Obamacare coverage.

… people who aren’t on Medicaid, Obamacare or SNAP: may still feel the cuts

Just because you aren’t on Medicaid doesn’t mean your health care wouldn’t be affected by the bill. Hospitals are warning that the steep cuts to Medicaid could force some hospitals — particularly in rural locations — to close their doors, limit services and reduce staff.

“The real-life consequences of these reductions will result in irreparable harm to access to care for all Americans,” Rick Pollack, CEO of the American Hospital Association, wrote in a letter to senators Sunday.

The bill could also affect those who don’t receive food stamps. A trade group for independent grocers warned that cutting federal support for the program could hurt local food retailers, which increase access to groceries, provide jobs and help local economies — particularly in rural and underserved areas.

When thinking about the tacky 50 mil Bezos wedding, anger comes to mind. Think MAGAs who believed Trump would help them. Violence of a different kind looms.

Musk is furious about the bill and howling about it on social media. Not only does he disagree with the deficit-exploding tax cuts, he would also prefer more spending cuts.

The Tesla CEO also vehemently opposes the abrupt end to EV tax credits.

“It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future,” he wrote on X. He predicted “political suicide” for Republicans if they turn this bill into law.

The legislation would also raise the debt ceiling by $5 trillion to allow the Treasury Department to borrow more to pay the bills that have already been incurred.

Carnegie Mellon University has a well-earned reputation as one of the nation’s top schools for computer science. Its graduates go on to work at big tech companies, start-ups and research labs worldwide.

Still, for all its past success, the department’s faculty is planning a retreat this summer to rethink what the school should be teaching to adapt to the rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence.

The technology has “really shaken computer science education,” said Thomas Cortina, a professor and an associate dean for the university’s undergraduate programs.

Computer science, more than any other field of study, is being challenged by generative A.I.

The A.I. technology behind chatbots like ChatGPT, which can write essays and answer questions with humanlike fluency, is making inroads across academia. But A.I. is coming fastest and most forcefully to computer science, which emphasizes writing code, the language of computers.

“We think that’s where it’s going,” he said. “But do we need a more profound change in the curriculum?”

Currently, individual computer science professors choose whether to allow students to use A.I. Last year, Carnegie Mellon endorsed using A.I. for introductory courses. Initially, Dr. Cortina said, many of the students regarded A.I. as a “magic bullet” to quickly complete homework assignments, which involved writing programs.

“But they didn’t understand half of what the code was,” he said, leading many to realize the value of knowing how to write and debug code themselves. “The students are resetting.”

That’s true for many computer science students embracing the new A.I. tools, with some reservations. They say they use A.I for building initial prototype programs, for checking for errors in code and as a digital tutor to answer questions. But they are reluctant to rely on it too much, fearing it dulls their computing acumen.

At 124 years old, Henry is officially the world’s oldest known crocodile, and his story is nothing short of extraordinary. This colossal reptile has not only lived a long life, but has also fathered thousands of offspring over his remarkable journey. Today, Henry resides at Crocworld Conservation Centre in South Africa, where he continues to thrive despite his age.

Born around 1900 in the Okavango Delta of Botswana, Henry’s life has been filled with adventure. He was captured in 1903 by an elephant catcher named Sir Henry, which is how he got his name. After spending a few decades in the wild, he moved to Crocworld in 1985, where he quickly became a central figure in their conservation efforts. Since then, Henry has mated with at least six females, and his keepers estimate he has fathered over 10,000 offspring during his time in captivity.

Henry’s size is equally impressive. The massive crocodile measures over 5 meters (16 feet 5 inches) from snout to tail and weighs in at a staggering 700 kilograms (1,543 pounds). To put that in perspective, the average Nile crocodile reaches around 4.5 meters (14.7 feet) in length and weighs roughly 410 kilograms (900 pounds). Henry’s sheer size makes him a true outlier, not just in terms of age, but in terms of physicality as well.

Some researchers have proposed that the secret to crocodile longevity lies in their gut microbiome. The microorganisms in their digestive systems may play a crucial role in maintaining their health and extending their lifespan. One study even suggests that the substances produced by the gut microbiome could contribute to their resilience and longevity. While it’s still unclear whether this theory holds up, it adds an intriguing layer to our understanding of these ancient creatures.

Crocodilians and birds are members of the clade Archosauria. Archosaurs are distinguished from other reptiles particularly by two sets of extra openings in the skull; the antorbital fenestra located in front of the animal's eye socket and the mandibular fenestra on the jaw. Archosauria has two main groups: the Pseudosuchia (crocodilians and their relatives) and the Avemetatarsalia (dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and their relatives).[10] The split between these two groups is assumed to have happened close to the Permian–Triassic extinction event, which is informally known as the Great Dying.[11]
