It's amazing how the press and the lay public go crazy when an AI does an analytic on chaotic code, pointing out inherent security risks and gotchas on the web inadvertently written in as the web was built as an ad hoc experiment that just happened to change the world in ways no one could have comprehended in any way, shape or fashion. That this insane system actually works is most amazing at all so step back and lets think about this while the great unwashed goes nuts as putting an AI to work to see how security can be improved upon is both logical and not as earth shattering as the press makes this out to be in the year of our lord 2026. 

The AI that found 27-year-old vulnerabilities no human ever caught before just forced an emergency meeting with every major Wall Street CEO

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Fed Chair Jerome Powell reportedly convened Wall Street leaders on Tuesday in an emergency meeting about Anthropic’s latest AI model, flagging concerns over a greater cybersecurity risk.

Bessent and Powell assembled the group of high-powered execs at the Treasury’s headquarters to ensure banks were aware of the cyber risks presented by Anthropic’s new model, Mythos, and similar future models, reported Bloomberg and the Financial Times. Sources who spoke to Bloomberg said those in attendance included Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser, Morgan Stanley CEO Ted Pick, Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan, Wells Fargo CEO Charlie Scharf, and Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon was also invited but was unable to attend, the sources said.

The Federal Reserve declined to comment to Fortune. The Treasury didn’t immediately respond to Fortune’s request for comment.

The meeting comes just weeks after Fortune exclusively reported Anthropic was developing an unreleased model described by the company as “by far the most powerful AI model” it had ever developed, the existence of which Anthropic inadvertently made public last month through its content management system. Later, the company acknowledged that model was Claude Mythos. 

Anthropic on Tuesday released a report titled “Assessing Claude Mythos Preview’s cybersecurity capabilities,” noting how the model was able to find many 10- and 20-year-old vulnerabilities, as well as a 27-year-old vulnerability in OpenBSD, an operating system that has a reputation for being one of the most secure. 

Now think about this. Telling everyone in the world about this issue invites bad guys to go through OpenBSD to see where said vulnerabilities lie as many folks have access to AIs like Chat, Gemini and the aforementioned Anthropic so opening up a can of worms applies, does it not?

In a move that could be seen as either responsible AI development or an expertly-executed hype maneuver, Anthropic says its new Claude Mythos Preview model is so powerful that the company’s only releasing it to a select group of tech companies, since giving it out to the public would be too dangerous. (Where have we heard that one before?)

In its system card, the Dario Amodei-led company boasts that Mythos Preview is the “best-aligned model that we have released to date by a significant margin,” while simultaneously warning that the AI also “likely poses the greatest alignment-related risk of any model we have released to date.” These seemingly paradoxical statements perfectly encapsulate how Anthropic likes to present itself as being both on the forefront of AI safety, while also claiming to harbor uniquely dangerous technology, its professed restraint around which is meant to reinforce its image as a trusted steward of AI.

Anthropic is actively preparing for an Initial Public Offering (IPO), with reports indicating a potential listing as early as October 2026. The AI startup, known for the Claude chatbot, has hired law firm Wilson Sonsini to prepare for this move, which is expected to be one of the largest in history.  Bloomberg.com
