What every lawyer fears ... & then some

About three years ago, yours truly had an interesting conversation with a good friend who happens to be a litigator. During the course of imbibing good brew, the topic of AI came up and its potential applicability to law. Without question, my bud said AI will do a number on his profession and yes, it's already has.

Artificial intelligence isn't just capable of generating a convincing college essay for you or making you look good in your next selfie — it might even help you get out of a speeding ticket in court.

An AI-based legal assistant created by San Francisco-based startup DoNotPay is about to advise a defendant in court for the first time, New Scientist reports, telling them what to say throughout an entire case.

According to the company, which is keeping the location and name of the defendant secret for privacy reasons, the defendant was charged with speeding.

The AI legal assistant will instruct the defendant via an earpiece during the case. If it doesn't work out, DoNotPay willing cover any potential fines.

Having had some experience with speeding tickets and fines, the key, without AI and lawyers and giving lip to the cop ... is showing up in court (cops tend not to on occasion) and having a good attitude while expressing sorrow for speeding 50 in a 35 mph zone. It doesn't eliminate payment but it does reduce the fine and ... with luck, the speeding violation doesn't go on your record. Thus far, it's worked for me. :)
