Center of Gravity ...



In battle, Schwerpunkt - the center of gravity - a term used by Carl von Clausewitz - equates to victory whenever a combatant takes control over the COG of any given conflict as the COG is “the hub of all power and movement, on which everything depends,”








These base concepts discussing how wars are won were woefully ignored by the US in Nam, the Middle East and in Afghanistan as indigenous forces don't have to win, just outlast, something great powers like Alexander the Great, England, Russia and the US seem to just not understand but Frank Herbert, in Dune did, voicing this set of tenets the US should have known about before getting involved in the disastrous misadventures depicted in this article.

Sagittarius A*



In the center of the Milky Way lurks a fairly quiescent monster, a relatively small supermassive black hole named Sagittarius A*, a tiny entity compared to its much larger cousin, M87. How these engines of creation and destruction work vis a vis the galaxies that house them has perplexed researchers for years but with sophisticated tools such as the Event Horizon Telescope, these objects of fascination and dread are becoming better understood as seen by Knowledgable Magazine's in-depth article titled What the image of the Milky Way’s black hole really shows.

There be dragons


There be dragons, not only in myth and legend but also in galaxies, entities known as black holes,  the most mysterious object known to science. 


The distance hasn’t stopped astronomers from drawing a fairly accurate map of the heart of the galaxy. We know that if you travel inbound from Earth at the speed of light for about 20,000 years, you’ll encounter the galactic bulge, a peanut-shaped structure thick with stars, some nearly as old as the universe. Several thousand light-years farther in, there’s Sagittarius B2, a cloud a thousand times the size of our solar system containing silicon, ammonia, doses of hydrogen cyanide, at least ten billion billion billion liters of alcohol and dashes of ethyl formate, which tastes like raspberries. Continue inward for another 390 light-years or so and you reach the inner parsec, the bizarro zone within about three light-years of the galactic center. Tubes of frozen lightning called cosmic filaments streak the sky. Bubbles of gas memorialize ancient star explosions. Gravity becomes a foaming sea of riptides. Blue stars that make our sun look like a marble go slingshotting past at millions of miles per hour. Space becomes a bath of radiation; atoms dissolve into a fog of subatomic particles. And near the core, that fog forms a great glowing Frisbee that rotates around a vast dark sphere. This is the supermassive black hole at the core of the Milky Way, the still point of our slowly rotating galaxy. We call it Sagittarius A*, that last bit pronounced “A-star.” The black hole itself is invisible, but it leaves a violent imprint on its environment, pulling surrounding objects into unlikely orbits and annihilating stars and clouds of gas that stray too close. Scientists have long wondered what they would see if they could peer all the way to its edge. They may soon find out.


The incredibly complex quest to see ours requires creativity at the level of an 
Einstein, a Newton or a Hawking, take your pick.

A rosette for the ages


Einstein stated this was, and is, the kind of orbital path Mercury makes when orbiting the sun. Seems a star orbiting  Sagittarius A* the supermassive black hole located at the center of the Milky Way does the exact same thing, thus confirming yet again, Einstein was something else altogether. :)

The Tides ...


As stated in the Science Museum Group's article, predicting the tides is rather crucial as civilization needs to know the extent of the rise and fall of the twice-daily movement of tides in order to successfully cope with this crucial aspect of the ocean, a process, prior to Lord Kelvin's invention of the modern analog computer in 1876, given to ad-hoc guesstimates for as long as humans have resided on planet earth. With the advent of digital, analog systems, like Kelvin's, withered away but no longer as AI needs to handle the vagaries of the real world in real-time using neural nets, the analog construct AI must have in order to function. Digital can do the job but only at enormous cost in terms of efficiency and power, something becoming increasingly problematic as society moves further into the 21st century.

Why digital has problems ...

GOING BACK TO the concept of dropping a ball, and my interest in finding out how far it travels during a period of time: Calculus solves that problem easily, with a differential equation—if you ignore air resistance. The proper term for this is “integrating velocity with respect to time.”

But what if you don’t ignore air resistance? The faster the ball falls, the more air resistance it encounters. But gravity remains constant, so the ball’s speed doesn’t increase at a steady rate but tails off until it reaches terminal velocity. You can express this in a differential equation too, but it adds another layer of complexity. I won’t get into the mathematical notation (I prefer to avoid the pain of it, to use Sara Achour’s memorable term), because the take-home message is all that matters. Every time you introduce another factor, the scenario gets more complicated. If there’s a crosswind, or the ball collides with other balls, or it falls down a hole to the center of the Earth, where gravity is zero—the situation can get discouragingly complicated.

MNow suppose you want to simulate the scenario using a digital computer. It’ll need a lot of data points to generate a smooth curve, and it’ll have to continually recalculate all the values for each point. Those calculations will add up, especially if multiple objects become involved. If you have billions of objects—as in a nuclear chain reaction, or synapse states in an AI engine—you’ll need a digital processor containing maybe 100 billion transistors to crunch the data at billions of cycles per second. And in each cycle, the switching operation of each transistor will generate heat. Waste heat becomes a serious issue.

Using a new-age analog chip, you just express all the factors in a differential equation and type it into Achour’s compiler, which converts the equation into machine language that the chip understands. The brute force of binary code is minimized, and so is the power consumption and the heat. The HCDC is like an efficient little helper residing secretly amid the modern hardware, and it’s chip-sized, unlike the room-sized behemoths of yesteryear.

I quote Tom Clark's excellent analysis of Tristram Sandy vis a vis the time equation as segue into the dark heart of Quantum Physics, the issue of entanglement and what it means to time, space and non-locality, issues physicists and mathematicians have wrestled with for more then 100 years and still have not come up with a definitive answer as to why two entangled particles, atoms or even molecules, can be separated millions (or billions) of light years apart yet their shared state remains inviolate. i.e. If entangled electron is "spinning" up, the partner's spin will be "spinning" down or in scientific terms...


So, what could cause this connect to be able to link two objects together instantaneously without regard to distance? As a total lay person not versed in math or physics in anyway, the take yours truly will take may be laughable but it's not totally crazed when one thinks about the quantum foam, a construct conceived by physicist John Wheeler to explain what space time would look like at the Planck length of 10-20 of a diameter of a proton. Seems the foam would not have space or time assigned to it as the foam is conjectured to consist of minuscule black holes winking in and out of existence at about 10-43 seconds, the time it takes for light to traverse the Planck distance of 10-20 of a diameter of a proton. Additionally, the size of the wormhole dictates it's life span and when it evaporates and possibly explodes, energy and material making up the particle zoo is injected back into the system, keeping said system to run forever. Lastly, many worlds exist but at different time scales and sizes. This is why its not just one big bang but an infinite number of same due to Hawking radiation causing worm holes to evaporate. 




If this is the case, the question to ask is, does time exist in the quantum foam where only virtual particles issue forth and disappear according to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, thus precluding any chance of time happening in the foam as "real" protons, neutrons and all the rest of the subatomic zoo appear, AFAIK, to be temporary arrangements of the quantum foam subject to varying rates of decay, thus creating the illusion of time as seen in this part of the multiverse. If this is true, then, could the act of entanglement create a link consisting of, in some weird way, a "thread" akin to a wormhole of the quantum foam, forever separate from the constraints of time or the speed of light in enabling two (or more) linked particles to instantly "talk" to one another no matter how far apart they may be. In closing, photons, gluons, and gravitons, as massless particles (bosons) traveling at the speed of light, do not experience the passage of time. Due to relativistic time dilation, time stops completely at the speed of light. From their perspective, the journey is instantaneous, and no time elapses. 

Lastly, Bohr's complementarity rules as seen by a recent experiment proving that the wave particle duality is fact and that it occurs spontaneously as A-D/D-A. (Analog to Digital/Digital to Analog) is how reality works 24/7. When looking at the research, Context-Induced Metric Geometry and Complementarity in the Recoiling-Slit Limit, one sees the connect to de Broglie and his matter wave research as this explains why the Context experiment rings true.

For reality to function, there must be slippage, the ability to adapt and interact with the noisy environment in realtime, along the lines of the OODA loop or cease to exist something that is not the case as seen by how the analog quantum world functions. In order for existence to exist, analog rules as seen by the OODA loop diagram whereby the ability to stay "alive" depends on observation of chaotic outside events, adaptive interaction with the environment, proper response to feedback loops driven by the environment and "intelligent" decision making based on an ever changing situation filled with uncertainties as analog is necessarily incomplete and uncertain as without these two conditions, existence cannot function.  Act is the collapse of the wave function aka digital.
