• Public health experts have raised concerns that spacing out shots as Trump suggests can lead to an increased risk that children become infected with a vaccine-preventable disease before returning for another visit.

With the war with Iran, foisted upon us by Israel and Trump, the impact of this CF's becoming existential.

To America’s allies, President Trump’s war in Iran, now in its sixth month,
seems headed for a strategic defeat.

They worry that the inability of the United States to turn military superiority into a sustainably changed Iran has displayed a vulnerability that Russia and China will welcome. In addition, Mr. Trump’s goals remain unmet, and the U.S. military is running short on key armaments that it needs for global reach.

For the moment, Iran is seemingly resolute under a more radical government, its nuclear and ballistic missile programs are degraded but not destroyed, and the Strait of Hormuz is effectively under its control. The war has left both the United States and Israel in weaker positions — and blaming each other for the mess.

Iranian missiles and drones not only restrict traffic through the strait and damage the economic infrastructure of allied energy production, but they also continue to threaten American bases across the Middle East and have killed or injured American service members.

What the domestic U.S. news is actively suppressing is the staggering scale of the devastation. The Pentagon officially admits to 19 U.S. soldiers dead, over 624 wounded, and 42 aircraft lost. But independent intel shows the Muwaffaq al-Salti Air Base in Jordan was absolutely gutted by Iranian ballistics.

Worse, the unrestricted infrastructure war has already started. The U.S. and Israel struck civilian, academic and gas sites in Tehran and Iran immediately responded by hitting critical water and electricity infrastructure in Kuwait. Factor in the Houthi blockade choking the Red Sea and one sees the entire Levant breaking apart under the thermodynamic stress of this war.

But the true tripwire? Iran's strikes inadvertently hit a Chinese installation by circumstance.
By dragging China's physical assets into the crossfire, the calculus of this disaster has officially
been raised to a possible World War III scenario.

This administration is destroying America as we speak. From the demonization of science and medicine to the weaponization of education and immigration, the damage is extreme and ongoing. Combine this with Israel defining our foreign policy and dictating how to destroy Iran has been a loss leader for the ages and supports the fact this war has become existential in scope. Where this goes, no one knows but from this writer's perspective, nothing good will come from this unless Trump is removed from office via the 25th. 

In closing, the midterms are the last hope for this nation as both houses must turn blue to try to limit the damage
and hold course until 2028. The fate of the country depends on it.

An opaque White House office staffed largely by veterans of Elon Musk’s “department of government efficiency” (Doge) has quietly rebuilt some of the federal government’s most sensitive websites – for passport applications, voter registration, prescription-drug pricing and children’s savings – in ways critics say appear to violate federal law.

The National Design Studio (NDS) was established by a Donald Trump executive order last August, and is led by Trump-aligned Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia and staffed by Doge veterans.

A Guardian investigation has found the office has apparently been developing or redeveloping sensitive federal websites, including those connecting Americans with prescription drugs, children’s savings accounts, passports and voter registration. The investigation corroborates and advances earlier reporting by the Drey Dossier, a YouTube investigative outlet.

The NDS built and now operates four public federal websites: ndstudio.gov, trumprx.gov, realfood.gov and trumpaccounts.gov. All four ran commercial visitor-tracking software, configured to evade the privacy tools many web users install, and none carry the public filings federal privacy law requires under laws including the Privacy Act of 1974 and the E-Government Act of 2002.

Separately, none of the NDS’s spending or its arrangements with outside vendors appears in USAspending, the federal contracting database, raising questions about how it is funded and overseen.

Xi Jinping has told Vladimir Putin the world is in danger of regressing to “the law of the jungle” as he sought to portray China as a force of global stability just days after hosting Donald Trump in Beijing.

The summit between the Russian and Chinese leaders on Wednesday included talks aimed at reaffirming Sino-Russian ties as global energy markets and supply chains have been disrupted by the US-Israeli war on Iran.

Speaking to reporters after their meeting, Xi said the two sides should promote co-operation in energy and technology, including in artificial intelligence, and work together to “improve global governance”.

“Unilateralism and hegemonism are deeply harmful, and the world faces the danger of regressing back to the law of the jungle,” Xi said in a veiled criticism of the US.

There comes a time in everyone's life where you either fish or cut bait. For Amodei, he became a fisherman. Yours truly is not easily impressed but his stand against Pentagon Pete's incoherent demands to turn Claude into a possible Terminator speaks volumes about the ethics of this man. This might the turning point against the Trump Administration as it only takes one to start a revolution or to show people what it means to have integrity and encourage people to state we have had enough of this insanity against the civil rights of the people and it's time to change NOW. Amodei just might the the guy. 

WASHINGTON (AP) — Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said Thursday that the artificial intelligence company “cannot in good conscience accede” to the Pentagon’s demands to allow unrestricted use of its technology, deepening a public clash with the Trump administration that is threatening to pull its contract and take other drastic steps by Friday.

The maker of the AI chatbot Claude said in a statement that it’s not walking away from negotiations but that new contract language received from the Defense Department “made virtually no progress on preventing Claude’s use for mass surveillance of Americans or in fully autonomous weapons.”

So now, the Minister of Silly Walks, Pete Hegseth has to make coherent his argument regarding Anthropic by either labeling Anthropic as a “supply chain risk.” in the same category as a software company connected to a hostile nation, (think China and Huawei) which destroys Anthropic as a viable company or declare Anthropic’s AI to be so vital that DOD will use the Defense Production Act (DPA) to force the company to turn over their tech as this is essential to maintain the security of the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said the U.S. government will stop using the AI-company Anthropic's products.

The decision came following a dispute between Anthropic and the Pentagon over whether the company could prohibit its tools from being used in mass surveillance of American citizens or to create autonomous weapon systems.

"The Leftwing nut jobs at Anthropic have made a DISASTROUS MISTAKE trying to STRONG-ARM the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution," said Trump in his post. "Therefore, I am directing EVERY Federal Agency in the United States Government to IMMEDIATELY CEASE all use of Anthropic's technology. We don't need it, we don't want it, and will not do business with them again!"

Additionally ... Trump would “NEVER ALLOW A RADICAL LEFT, WOKE COMPANY TO DICTATE HOW OUR GREAT MILITARY FIGHTS AND WINS WARS!” That decision, he said, “belongs to YOUR COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, and the tremendous leaders I appoint to run our Military.”

So sayeth the POTUS, a stable genius for the ages.

Now, Anthropic may be heading down the same path of its rivals. On Tuesday, it revealed a new version of its Responsible Scaling Policy that drops its core safety commitment first made in 2023: to stop training and refuse to deploy an AI system if it couldn’t guarantee it had proper safety guardrails in place that met stringent internal standards.

The new sentiment among the company’s leadership is that this has become an unneeded chain around its foot.

“We felt that it wouldn’t actually help anyone for us to stop training AI models,” Anthropic’s chief science officer Jared Kaplan told TIME in an interview. “We didn’t really feel, with the rapid advance of AI, that it made sense for us to make unilateral commitments… if competitors are blazing ahead.”

The updated policy, it’s fair to say, flagrantly contradicts the organization’s entire raison d’etre.

Why it matters: That penalty is usually reserved for companies from adversarial countries, such as Chinese tech giant Huawei.

Using it to punish a leading American tech firm, particularly one on which the military itself is currently reliant, would be unprecedented.

An unprecedented conflict is unfolding now between Anthropic—the frontier artificial intelligence (AI) company that makes the Claude series of AI models and tools—and the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), with enormously high stakes for the future of American AI companies. The heart of the rupture is the DOD’s demand that they be allowed to use frontier AI tools without restrictions for “all lawful uses” and Anthropic’s desire to maintain a few restrictions on the use of their tools, specifically to ensure that Claude is not used for mass domestic surveillance or for autonomous weapons systems without human oversight. This is in line with their concerns about the future of AI as well as Claude’s constitution. At stake is whether an American company can set terms of service for its own products—or whether this administration gets to decide otherwise.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is threatening unprecedented retaliation, potentially labeling Anthropic as a “supply chain risk.” This designation could destroy Anthropic’s business ahead of their expected initial public offering (IPO). Alternatively, it’s possible the administration could claim that Anthropic’s AI is so essential to the DOD that it will use the Defense Production Act (DPA) to attempt to compel the company to provide their technology if they do not agree to the government’s demands. It should be explicitly stated that these two threats are directly in conflict with each other: Either Anthropic is a risk to the DOD and should be expelled from their systems because of that danger or it is so essential to the DOD that our national security would be at risk without unrestrained access to it. It cannot be both. The Trump administration likely does not believe either of those things. This is a negotiating tactic to get what it wants from Anthropic.

This is beyond dangerous without question.

Getting suspended for telling the truth is SOP for this brain dead administration from hell where sycophancy triumphs over competency in the land of the brave and home of the free. With science, tech and research removed, a country loses relevancy in a world driven by digital. WTF come to mind without question. 

In an open letter to Congress on Monday, nearly 200 current and former FEMA employees argued that the Trump administration has eroded the capacity of the agency and its partners. Since January, the administration has moved to cancel billions of dollars in disaster preparedness grants and tossed around the idea of eliminating FEMA altogether. Additionally, about 2,000 FEMA employees—a third of its workforce—have left their posts through firings, buyouts, or early retirements since the start of the year, Reuters reports.

These decisions are setting the U.S. up for another Katrina-level catastrophe, the signatories warn. “The agency’s current trajectory reflects a clear departure from the intent of PKEMRA,” the letter reads. “Our shared commitment to our country, our oaths of office, and our mission of helping people before, during, and after disasters compel us to warn Congress and the American people of the cascading effects of decisions made by the current administration.”

All empires end, including this one but in this case, Agent Orange is hastening the process in ways not thought possible until now. For this take, the emphasis is on tech and research, the two essentials required for any country to maintain relevancy in a most uncertain world. 

Roald Sagdeev has already watched one scientific empire rot from the inside. When Sagdeev began his career, in 1955, science in the Soviet Union was nearing its apex. At the Kurchatov Institute in Moscow, he studied the thermonuclear reactions that occur inside of stars. A few lab tables away, Andrei Sakharov was developing the hydrogen bomb. The Soviet space program would soon astonish the world by lofting the first satellite, and then the first human being, into orbit. Sagdeev can still remember the screaming crowds that greeted returning cosmonauts in Red Square. But even during those years of triumph, he could see corruption working its way through Soviet science like a slow-moving poison.

Fast forward to today.

I thought of Sagdeev on a recent visit to MIT. A scientist there, much celebrated in her field, told me that since Donald Trump’s second inauguration she has watched in horror as his administration has performed a controlled demolition on American science. Like many other researchers in the U.S., she’s not sure that she wants to stick around to dodge falling debris, and so she is starting to think about taking her lab abroad. (She declined to be named in this story so that she could speak openly about her potential plans.)

Not since the Red Scare, when researchers at the University of California had to sign loyalty oaths, and those at the University of Washington and MIT were disciplined or fired for being suspected Communists, has American science been so beholden to political ideology. At least during the McCarthy era, scientists could console themselves that despite this interference, federal spending on science was surging. Today, it’s drying up.

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon may have had a juicy steak in mind while speaking at a panel earlier this week because she confused artificial intelligence, also known as AI, with A1, the same name as the popular sauce brand.

McMahon, 76, made the mix-up on April 8 while speaking at the ASU+GSV Summit, an event focusing on educational innovation. The former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) initially referred to the acronym for artificial intelligence correctly, saying, "You know, AI development – I mean, how can we educate at the speed of light if we don't have the best technology around to do that?"

Things got sticky as McMahon's speech continued: "A school system that's going to start making sure that first graders, or even pre-Ks, have A1 teaching in every year. That's a wonderful thing!"

The Supreme Court agreed on Monday that the Trump administration can proceed with dismantling the Education Department by firing more than a thousand workers.

The order is a significant victory for the administration and could ease President Trump’s efforts to sharply curtail the federal government’s role in the nation’s schools.

The Trump administration has announced plans to fire more than 1,300 workers, a move that would effectively gut the department, which manages federal loans for college, tracks student achievement and enforces civil rights laws in schools.

Yours truly flies a drone, a Mavic 3 Pro, tech made in, you guessed it, China. Sleek, 4K video, 3 lenses, and easy to fly, with caution of course, is something the US can't make, something similar to not building high speed rail, but you already know that, right? Well, let's thanks Ronnie for doing this, you know, off shoring manufacturing in order to gin profits for stockholders with the end result, the US can't make anything of consequence any more, including cheap, effective drones, a most disquieting circumstance but don't worry, Trump and company will make it better by gutting science and basic research, the two prerequisites required to develop tech like the entity seen above.

On a patch of dirt in the vast wilderness in Alaska, a long-range drone roared like a lawn mower as it shot into the sky. It scanned the ground for a target it had been programmed to recognize, and then dived, attempting to destroy it by crashing into it. But it missed, landing about 80 feet away.

On another attempt, a drone nose-dived at launch. On a subsequent try, a drone crashed into a mountain.

These drones weren’t flown by amateur hobbyists. They were launched by drone manufacturers paid by a special unit of the Department of Defense as part of an urgent effort to update U.S. capabilities. For four days last month, they tested prototypes of one-way drones by trying to crash them into programmed targets, while soldiers tried to stop the drones with special electronic equipment.

The exercise aimed to help U.S. defense contractors and soldiers get better at drone warfare. But it illustrated some of the ways in which the U.S. military could be unprepared for such a conflict. The nation lags behind Russia and China in manufacturing drones, training soldiers to use them and defending against them, according to interviews with more than a dozen U.S. military officials and drone industry experts.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has acknowledged that the country has fallen behind, and he announced a series of new policies and investments in drones that he vowed would close the gap. In a video released on Thursday, he cited outdated rules and procurement processes as making it too difficult for commanding officers to buy drones and train their soldiers to use them.

“While our adversaries have produced millions of cheap drones,” he said, “we were mired in bureaucratic red tape.”

The video came on the heels of an executive order signed by President Trump last month called “Unleashing American Drone Dominance,” which directs federal agencies to fast-track approvals for American drone manufacturers and protect the U.S. drone supply chain from “undue foreign influence.”

Can the US eventually build cheap and effective drones? Yes but it takes time, research, manufacturing prowess and manufacturing capability, something a company by the name of DJI has, in spades.

Drones have become a weapon of choice on modern battlefields. In the early days of the war in Ukraine, soldiers beat back the Russian invasion by adding deadly modifications to the Mavic, a drone sold to hobbyists by DJI, a Chinese company that is the world’s largest drone manufacturer. Versions of the Mavic cost between $300 and $5,000, according to online retailers.

DJI, of Shenzhen, China, accounts for about 70 percent of all commercial drones sold globally for hobby and industrial use, such as aerial photography, package delivery and weather research. The privately held company sells its equipment to customers in the United States — there’s even an authorized store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan — but U.S. law bars the military from buying Chinese drones. The company declined to share market data, but industry experts estimate that DJI’s output far exceeds that of any other drone manufacturer.

“No one even comes close,” said Bobby Sakaki, chief executive of UAS NEXUS, a drone industry consultant. “DJI can make millions of drones per year. That is a hundred times more than anybody in the United States can make.”

Hidden in plain sight but maybe not as Trump's Big Beautiful Bill contains big plans to turn America into something unimagined prior to the reelection of Agent Orange, the luckiest man on planet earth.

Whatever else can be said against the One Big, Beautiful Bill, the 1,037-page legislation carrying President Trump’s domestic agenda, at least the grandiosity of its name reflects the grandiosity of its ambition. Far more expensive than the pandemic stimulus package Mr. Trump signed in his first term, the bill would provide some $3.8 trillion in tax cuts that favor the wealthy, paid for by cutting over a trillion dollars from government programs and borrowing most of the rest.

As the Senate takes up the legislation after its passage in the House last month, Mr. Trump and his allies have worked hard to conceal the true impact it would have on the country, falsely casting it as a golden deal with no downside for the American people. Times Opinion asked seven writers with a wide range of policy expertise to reveal its potential repercussions.

It’s one of the main ways that the courts enforce their rulings. If this bill passes, courts would be able to make such interventions only if plaintiffs first provided security, or a bond.

A sicker America

The current draft of the Republican tax bill would reduce the federal Medicaid budget by at least $600 billion over a decade. That would be the largest cut the program has faced since its inception.

Immigration, a blueprint for nationwide fear

This bill would pave the way for the largest investment in federal immigration enforcement since the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security in 2002 — one that would turn that department into a Trojan horse for an assault on the civil rights of all Americans.

The United States already spends more on immigration enforcement than on all other federal criminal law enforcement agencies combined. This bill seeks an additional $175 billion for Mr. Trump’s restrictionist agenda, including deportations in the interior of the country, as well as border barrier construction and surveillance technology. The bill has $45 billion earmarked for detention infrastructure alone. It would also give billions of dollars to border states for assisting in border security operations.

More economic turmoil and isolation

Mr. Trump has made clear that foreigners are not welcome here. He has sought to prevent them from selling their goods and services here. And now Republicans have a plan to discourage them even from investing in the United States.

Dirtier, more dangerous air

The bill would prevent America from innovating in the energy sector and make the country poorer — but Americans, by and large, wouldn’t feel that.

What they would feel is what this bill would do to their air. By slowing the rollout of renewable energy and by removing incentives for Americans to buy electric vehicles, the bill would increase the amount of coal, natural gas and oil burned nationwide, making pollution far worse. (Power prices may also rise.)

A weaker military

The bill seems as though it would fulfill Mr. Trump’s promise to make the U.S. military “bigger, better, stronger and more powerful than ever” — until you look closer.

The bill would add $150 billion to the Pentagon’s top line, and the administration claims this would be the first $1 trillion defense budget.

But the $150 billion in the measure is a one-time increase rather than a permanent change and one that the submitted budget wouldn’t sustain: My colleague Todd Harrison calculates that when you strip away the financial gimmicks, Mr. Trump’s claimed trillion-dollar defense budget would actually be a $31.5 billion reduction from the last one under President Joe Biden. That’s roughly the annual cost of 10 Army brigades.

Factoid

Mr. Trump’s policy bill would add $2.4 trillion to the national debt, the Congressional Budget Office said on Wednesday. That estimate was all but certain to inflame concerns over the fiscal consequences of the legislation.

And we haven't even talked about the negative impact of this bill on science, research and tech. Seems this administration has no competency whatsoever save for the lust for money and the power it accrues as grifting and surveillance as art form is the one thing this administration know how to do well without question.
