Implications

Organic proteins reminds one of party favor curls raised to absurd limits where everything appears chaotic yet is anything but. The "party curl" seen above is the circadian protein, the controlling entity of internal biological clocks ranging from fruit fly and bacteria to humans and whales.

"Cornell researchers have identified for the first time the 3-D crystal structure of a protein in fruit flies (Drosophila) that also facilitates circadian rhythm functions in most higher organisms -- from cyanobacteria and plants to animals, including humans."

Now that said protein has been identified, profound implications based on this research may happen sooner rather then later as seen by the fact cancer cells use a different time frame when dividing from that of normal tissue, something difficult to readily identify without issue until now.

"The experiment discovered that one line of immortal cells have functioning biological clocks but their internal clocks have no effect on the rate at which they divide and grow. (Immortal cells have the same basic properties as cancer cells but are created in the laboratory where they are used for a wide variety of purposes.)...

Biologists have observed that cell division in normal cells in species ranging from unicellular organisms to humans peaks at specific times of the day and consider this as indirect evidence that the process is regulated by their internal biological clocks. Cells in the human mouth, for example, tend to divide in the evening, just before nightfall."
