Haptics...

or, how do I grab the damn thing? As noted in the Second Life post of 2/22 I'm put off by the existing interface to most 3-D worlds. Keyboards and mice just don't do it. But this just might.



Yeah, I know, it's looks geeky as hell. But the Novint Falcon may be what I'm looking for. A bit pricey (~$200) and dependant on their writing drivers...or an interface to some tool like ControllerMate. And...as you might imagine, there are the usual paltform (Win v. OS X) issues. But still...

That's nuts. :) You're absolutely right that 3d interfaces are the way to go and this certainly is an improvement over the wired glove and yes, it does look geeky. :) Another 3D controller that does not give force feedback is the Space Traveler. http://www.vrealities.com/spacetraveler.html
a device that's gotten good reviews from cad guys and 3D special effects artists.
